Gangotri Yatra

Gangotri is a town and a Nagar Panchayat in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is 99 km from Uttarkashi, the main district headquarter. It is a Hindu pilgrim town on the banks of the river Bhagirathi and origin of river Ganges. The town is located on the Greater Himalayan Range, at a height of 3,100 metres (10,200 ft).

According to popular Hindu legend, it was here that Goddess Ganga descended when Lord Shiva released the mighty river from the locks of his hair.Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges and seat of the goddess Ganga, is one of the four sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. The original Gangotri Temple was built by the Nepalese general Amar Singh Thapa.

There are lots of buses and sharable cabs you can find at Rishikesh Bus Stand going towards Badrinath. But it is very hard to get them because of the extremely high numbers of pilgrimages traveling to the same destination. The best way to reach Badrinath is by changing buses or sharable cabs.

You can break your journey to avoid the wait for the direct vehicle to Badrinath. You can take bus/sharable Tata Sumo / Maxx to Rudraprayag and then Rudraprayag. to Joshimath. You can stay at Joshimath which has plenty of accommodation, food & market facilities. However, if you have plenty of time then you can get to Badrinath town directly which is just 45km (2hrs) route from Joshimath.

Day 2: Visit Badrinath Temple & Nearby locations
Wake up early in the morning, attend the temple aarti & pay your obeisance at Badrinath temple. It can take 2-3 hours for Darshan because of the long queue. After that, you can visit nearby locations
